Ever find yourself with a room full of furniture but feeling like the room isn’t complete? Oftentimes you can have all the necessary pieces to complete a living room (sofa, coffee table, lounge chair) yet the room doesn’t feel homey. A complete room requires additional pieces to be layered in and styled. Add some throw pillows to the sofa, pull up a drink table by the chair, and adorn the walls with some art. For this feature, I’ve pulled together some pieces that are a mix of traditional and modern but all with a neutral and organic connecting thread.
- Pendant: Depending on the size of the room and the other light sources in the room, this pendant may not be the best for a center fixture. Instead, I picture it hanging over a game table off to the side of the room. I love a room with layered seating spaces so the room feels multifunctional and can hold up to more people when needed.
- Mirror: This mirror is unlike any I have seen with designs overlayed onto the mirror itself to create a frame with more depth. The botanical aspect adds a bit of whimsy.
- Botanical Prints: Get a set of 9 (or more) related prints in the same size to create an easy collection of art without having to put too much thought into the size or arrangement.
- Sculpture: This organic form by Lemieux et Cie is ambiguous yet intriguing. It’s simple enough to easily be layered into a styled shelf or surface. See also a great mirror by the same brand in my neutral home decor guide.
- Paper Mache Bowls: Add some height to these bowls by stacking them on some books in shelf decor.
- Wood Tray: This tray is super simple with a wood base and leather handles, but makes a great base layer for styling a coffee table. Plus is useful for transporting drinks and snacks when entertaining.
- Pillows: I like that these are tribal patterned but have a neutral color palette that is easily incorporated into an existing scheme.
- Rug: I went very simple on the rug with a floral motif over the expanse of the rug. While this pattern is so simple it reads as a solid, if you ever feel overwhelmed by a patterned rug try doing a slightly smaller rug and layering it over a simple sisal.
- Side Table: I love a plaster or plaster look table and the footed shape of this table makes it so much more interesting that a simple square plaster side table.
- Throw: This chunky knit throw looks so cozy and easily adds texture to an otherwise flat space.
- Shell Vase: I am in love with this vase, it’s something about the shell or fan like shape that I have been into recently because I think a large floral arrangement would sit so prettily in this.
- Book Stack: I like when coffee table books coordinate to the interests of the people whose home they are in but I couldn’t resist this green stack. If you are just looking to fill some shelves and don’t care much about the contents of the books, buying books by color is a great option.
- Hall Chair: Bonus points if you find a vintage carved wood hall chair, but this one is still so sweet and easily fits on a small wall so it can be pulled up when extra seating is required.
